Take boutique offer or wait it out for Jan/Feb lateral hiring
Throwaway account. Title pretty much says it all. Have written offer from boutique/regional firm. Street pay and solid deal flow but no name recognition for potential exit down the line. Debating taking the offer in hand or passing and waiting until Jan/Feb when firms lose analysts after paying out bonuses. I am lateraling from outside of banking so not sure I want to be greedy but also think I stand a good chance at an offer from a more reputable firm if I wait. Thoughts on timing here?
If you have Street pay at a regional firm, you are living the dream brother.
Why not take it and get a few months of work in before lateraling in Jan/Feb? Worst case scenario, you don't get a lateral offer in Jan/Feb, but at least you have IB experience on your resume now and might make it easier to lateral to a different firm in the future.
Take the offer and try lateraling to a larger bank (if that's what you want) in Jan/Feb. You might run into the issue of not having enough IB experience, but you can obviously just keep your eyes peeled on Indeed.com and apply to lateral analyst roles as they come up. You'll kick yourself if you decline the offer and then strike out in Jan/Feb.
