Take the series 63 and 79 on my own

I was wondering if it was legal/possible to take the series on my own, before starting as an analyst in order to gain time on the job and be ready to work asap?

I know its not common practice but I have a lot of time this semester so I figured it could be a good idea.

All of the exams are changing to this new format. The new structure, if I recall, is that there is a "General" exam and "Module" exams. So the Series 7, for example, used to be a day long exam comprised of 250 questions over 2 3 hour testing segments. Now, it's a general Securities Industry Essentials Exam (the SIE), which is now the Co-Req general exam, which is 75 questions and a 125 question Series 7, which is the module. For the S79, it would be the SIE and a 75 question Series 79 exam. I think that this was done to reduce complexity and overlap. There is no change to sponsorship though - you still have to be sponsored to take the SIE and the Module Exams.

SIE you can do on your own...part of this was to "ease the transition and open opportunities in the financial sector"

BUT...SIE gets you nothing more than checking the first of two required boxes for anything.
