Taking 2 days off for graduation ceremony

Hi everyone,

Apologies if this has been asked before, difficult search function here on WSO!

I'm interning this summer at a balance sheet BB within Capital Markets but I'm also graduating this year. The internship starts around a month before my graduation ceremony. Would it be okay to take 2 days off? Means a lot for my family to attend and see me graduate (plus it's the culmination of all my hard work, I want to experience it as well).

I know that the market is really tough and sticky right now so I really don't want to jeopardise getting a return offer.

This is for London btw for cultural nuances (in case things are different in America).

Not really possible because my mother is 50+ and has some mobility issues, so would put too much strain on her. But sounds good, thank you!

When I completed my masters, many classmates weren't at the ceremony because they were worried about their return offers. I personally found that a bit silly.

I haven't worked at a BB but in general the British culture is quite understanding.

It's quite simple - ask your team a week after you start. Apologise for it but approach it from the angle of "Graduation is once in a lifetime event and I would really appreciate it if I could attend. If the team urgently needs my help, I can work during the following weekend to make up for it."

If they refuse, understand that you're in a tough environment and there's no room for errors in general.

Curious to see what others think

Thanks! Yeah this is more of a "once in a lifetime thing" because it's my undergraduate degree that I'm completing. Will take that on board and ask early!
