Notre Dame
Northwestern
Michigan
IU
Illinois
Wisco
Lets go Badgers
I know this a joke, but no cap, IU's IBW program does place pretty well in chicago actually.
Would also add that all NYC targets still apply. OCR will be mostly these schools but you’ll still see plenty of ivy, stern, etc in Chicago
Let me FTFY:
1) IU IBW
2) Michigan
3) Notre Dame
4) Northwestern
4) U Chicago
5) Illinois
6) Wisconsin
6) Iowa
6) IU non-IBW
Are these being the targets the reason why Chicago bankers are chill asf
.
I feel like you’re missing a pretty big school here *hint Chicago is in its name
Do not base your college decision on this. Also go to NYC if you really want to make it in IB.
Bro there’s 100s of posts here about non targets trying to break in. Search for them
The intern says you can only make it in IB if you go to NYC. Maybe we should listen?
It would be your usual suspects being Uchicago and Northwestern.
Outside of the schools mentioned, you could throw DePaul and Marquette in there. Not really targets but I know people in the industry that went there
Alum of one of the two. Yeah there are people in the biz from these places — But it takes a lot of work to get in. Save yourself the pain and go to one of the schools mentioned earlier in the thread.
In addition to schools above, Purdue is trying to build an IB program. Has a highly engaged alumni base. B School just changed names from Krannert to Daniels (after current Purdue President). Not many students yet, so could be easier to shine in a smaller pool than at Notre Dame or Indiana.
Uchicago is far and away the # 1 target for chicago firms. Not sure where all these rankings came from. Most of them just take NYC offers instead, which is why they may have less representation
HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH
Nerd.
Also absolutely not true.
Edit: Just saw your profile - you were just admitted to UChicago, so that makes sense that you're validating yourself. To be sure (as someone not in financial services who may potentially want to work in financial services), UChicago is not the #1 in Chicago by any means - it's Big10 purely based on numbers. Plus, finance is a very social game and UChicago kids are super smart but tend to skew on the weirder side (at least that is the perception)
How's indiana this time of year?
Go read a book
The disrespect for UW is wild
Most Wisco students wanting IB prefer NY which is why CHI placements aren’t as high as other Big Ten schools
Was a 1st year at a small LA school in Iowa this year that puts a kid or 2 into IB every couple of years or so, smaller firms in the MW but doing well with their resources. Anyways, I’m buddies with a 1st year at Iowa who says they put in 20-30 kids every year mainly to Chi but also NYC and occasional SF. Always thought Iowa was a bottom tier academics, but my friend says there’s a program there similar to IU IBW and alum go to serious work to help the kids in the program out. Any other insight? Heard Minnesota might be building a similar club?
TONS of other universities are rolling out IBW-like organizations. UVA, Purdue, Minnesota, and others. Even Eastern Carolina University is considering starting one to target Charlotte banks. Iowa’s program is solid. Florida’s program is good, but probably not for Chicago.
