TD LevFin Thoughts?

I'm an incoming analyst within TD's sponsors group and thinking about lateraling to levfin. Wanted to get some thoughts on how TD's levfin group compares to other levfin groups on the street, whether they hold pen to model, as well as exits. Also curious to hear more about group culture, hours, and comp.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, TD's LevFin group isn't explicitly mentioned in the context provided, so specific insights into their modeling responsibilities, exits, culture, hours, or compensation aren't available. However, here are some general takeaways about LevFin groups that might help guide your thinking:

  1. Modeling Responsibilities: LevFin groups vary in their technical involvement. Some, like BAML, are known for being more modeling-intensive, while others, like JPM, lean more towards capital markets roles. It's worth investigating whether TD's LevFin group holds the pen on models or focuses more on structuring and execution.

  2. Exits: Top LevFin groups often place well into private equity, credit funds, and distressed debt roles. However, the strength of exits can depend on the group's reputation, deal flow, and the skills you develop during your tenure.

  3. Culture and Hours: LevFin groups generally have better hours compared to M&A teams, but this can vary significantly by bank and group. Some groups are known for being more meritocratic and less focused on face time.

  4. Compensation: Compensation in LevFin groups can be competitive, especially in groups with high revenue generation and smaller headcounts. Bonuses may vary depending on the bank's performance and the group's contribution.

If you're considering lateraling, it would be helpful to compare TD's LevFin group to other Tier 1 or Tier 2 groups (e.g., BAML, JPM, DB, CS) in terms of deal flow, technical exposure, and exit opportunities. Additionally, reaching out to current or former analysts in TD's LevFin group could provide more tailored insights.

TD sponsors does nothing so probably good idea to move. It's a good group if you want to just chill and collect checks

Levfin doesnt hold pen on models. Culture is pretty good but boring. Hours are dependent on the MD you work with. Pay is street / slightly above street but falls off as you become more senior

Sponsors / industry banking is a 2 year analyst program while capital markets is 3 year
