The 400 Investment Banking Question Guide - Is the Advanced section necessary?
I have a Superday coming up for a 2021 Summer Analyst position. In the 400 M&I question guide they divide each topic into "Basic" and "Advanced." I already have the Basics section down, is it necessary know the Advanced section for an SA position? I also never done a finance/IB internship before. Would like to hear your experiences
I would really appreciate some guidance on this as well.
Advanced section was definitely helpful for me during EB interviews
Yes - there is no downside to be over prepared
Usually, Basic for BB and Advanced for EB...if you're on a time crunch. However, you should be as prepared as possible. Doesn't hurt.
I thought it was important for me to know for EB interviews.
When you say M&I 400, are you referring to the 400 questions or the full 600 pages guide?
My $0.02 would be that the advanced for concepts like accounting, enterprise/equity value, and DCF. For M&A and LBO, basic will probably be adequate.
I second this
Agree. Would only go to advanced once you know all the basic questions.
It also highly depends on where you’re interviewing -From my experience, you should have a solid grasp of advanced sections if interviewing for EBs and only advanced the first sections excluding M&A/LBO for BBs. Anyhow, if you have time constraints I would make sure you know the first sections (accounting, dcf, EV/EQ) in and out before trying to grind the advanced LBO
Where would questions related to the Treasury Stock Method fall? Beginner or Advanced?
Basic
^second, definitely basic
