The Difficulty of Breaking In (Non-Target POV)

Hi everyone I am just curious to ask y'all and I hope I am not coming off in any rude way. What is your guys why investment banking and why this company? I feel like everyone has the same answers: "learn a lot, impact, fast growing company/entrepreneurial, the people, etc". You can obviously say it better than others, but how do y'all get these superdays? I have networked with way too many people to be fair, have gotten coffee with a shit load of them, but the results aren't really showing. I just am curious how many of you guys are target schools and do y'all think going to a target school can get you to the super day with minimal effort? Is most of this just part luck? Just questions again so I do not want to come off in any way, I am just curious. Thanks for the insights y'all, this forum has been really helpful for me on advice and updates.

I don't know I have seen kids from my school just chat with 1 person, study the 400Q guide and end with an offer. I see minimal effort as like networking with 20-30 people, I feel like that is pretty average. Again nothing to argue about, but I get what you are saying.

I’m interning with a coverage group next summer. My “why this group/IB” was this: “In investment banking you get the OPPORTUNITY to work on some of the most important and IMPACTFUL transactions within a given market, I want to have this opportunity because I’d like to lend my energy to these transactions plus be a part of positively changing the communities and cities these transactions take place in. In addition to that, I am someone who likes to be challenged and from the few dozen or so bankers that I’ve chatted with over the past X months, it sounds like a career where my competitive nature will be satisfied. Finally, I believe that this group does X specific thing for society that is a net positive and I’d like to be a part of that. (Last part is specific to the industry and I don’t wanna reveal that)

But that’s what I said, non-target candidate
