Third Year Advice

After many months of interviewing and having had various buyside opportunities fall through due to the economy, lack of hiring and other factors, I've decided to accept a third year offer (which I was lucky enough to have) in my group and stick it out in banking for at least another year. While I plan on continuing to interview for PE and other opportunities for next year as they come along, I also want to make the most of my third year and keep learning/put myself in a position potentially to get promoted to associate if I decide that's something I'd want to do. For anyone who's been here before, any advice you'd have on things I should try to do or keep in mind to make my third year as good as possible would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much in advance.

It would take 1 year to enter an MBA class plus 2 more years of b-school. It would be at least 2 years faster, and much much cheaper, if he could go straight from 3rd year->associate.

(Plus there's the problem of getting into a top b-school with only 2 years of analyst experience- during a recession of all times)

Hopefully someone knowledgeable will get back on topic and give him some real advice.
