Thoughts on A2A?
I'm a second year analyst about to be promoted to associate and wondering whether to stick it out with the A2A path.
I don't have any desire to stay in banking for the long term but don't know what I want to do instead, but it isn't PE. I don't want to recruit just because I feel like I need to leave banking after two years.
I had a brutal first year but the last 6 months on the job have been really quite good. At the moment, I'm working an average of ~30 hours a week (some weeks it's literally nothing, other weeks are 9am-10pm, minimal weekend work) and my bank are still happy for us to WFH most of the time so this is easy to get away with. I'm well regarded in the team and get treated really well as the seniors are quite desperate to retain juniors. I've gotten used to the lifestyle of minimal work and good pay.
Of course, this could all change depending on who I get staffed with and whether any nightmare projects come in.
My current plan is to hang around as long as it takes me to figure out what I'd rather do or, if it gets bad again, as long as I can, whichever comes first. I am considering moving team internally but I'm very tempted to keep going with the easy life in my current team.
With all that in mind, I'd appreciate any views on the A2A path in general and especially if anyone regrets staying?
Shamelessly bumping this.. or has everyone here left rather than doing A2A?
Go A2A, continue to save $ and take advantage of the down time.
Take some time to figure out what it it’s you want to do with our life, then pursue it unapologetically.
Don’t just leave banking “to leave banking”. Come up with a legitimate game plan / course of action.
