Thoughts on Asking for a month off before starting a new job?
I just received a verbal lateral offer to start as an Analyst with the details set to be worked out next week. I'm kind of anxious about asking to join earliest in December? What have yall's experience been like asking for a month (instead of the standard 2 weeks) before lateraling over?
might depend firm to firm
Did they indicate when they expect you to start? I imagine if they were hiring, they probably need bodies, but I don't know. How would you feel if you were in the MDs shoes? Doesn't seem like a great idea, but maybe they won't care. Also, starting in December - isn't that really like starting in January, since things might be really slow last two weeks of December?
Are you asking if asking for a month before starting is a big deal? That's a very easy conversation to have and shouldn't be a big deal at all. Or are you asking if you can take a month off after you start? I would not advise doing the latter.
