Thoughts on BNP NY

Hi all, I just received an offer for BNP Paribas NYC Asset Finance & Securitization 2027 SA and would appreciate any honest intel on deal flow, junior responsibilities, hours, culture, and comp progression.

Also curious on exits and long term optionality. What are common next steps (structured credit, private credit, IB Generalist, securitization platforms, staying and moving up) and how portable is the skill set?

Thanks so much!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, there isn't specific information in the dataset about BNP Paribas NYC Asset Finance & Securitization 2027 SA. However, here are some general insights that might help guide your decision:

  1. Deal Flow & Responsibilities: BNP Paribas has been recognized for its strong presence in structured finance and securitization. Historically, their deal flow in these areas has been solid, particularly in Europe, with growing traction in the U.S. Junior responsibilities in such roles typically include financial modeling, credit analysis, and structuring deals.

  2. Hours & Culture: While specific details about hours and culture at BNP NYC aren't available, structured finance roles often have better work-life balance compared to traditional IB roles. BNP Paribas is known for having a more European work culture, which can translate to a slightly more relaxed environment compared to U.S. bulge brackets.

  3. Compensation Progression: Compensation in structured finance roles is generally competitive but may trail traditional IB roles at the junior level. However, the skill set can lead to lucrative opportunities in private credit or securitization platforms.

  4. Exits & Long-Term Optionality: Common exits from structured finance roles include:

    • Structured Credit: Leveraging your expertise in securitization and credit structuring.
    • Private Credit: Transitioning to funds focused on direct lending or credit investments.
    • IB Generalist Roles: Moving into broader investment banking roles, though this may require additional networking.
    • Securitization Platforms: Joining specialized platforms or funds focused on asset-backed securities.
    • Staying and Moving Up: BNP Paribas offers a clear path for internal progression, especially for those who excel in their roles.
  5. Skill Set Portability: The skills you develop in asset finance and securitization—such as credit analysis, structuring, and financial modeling—are highly transferable to roles in private credit, structured credit funds, and other areas of finance that value expertise in complex financial instruments.

i just got a first round, could you please let me know how your process was? would really love any help/advice. congrats btw!

Congrats on the offer! I know a colleague who interned there past summer in AFS. The internship has chill hours, good people, and nice culture. The deal-flow is pretty good in Europe but lower in US.

A lot of people actually end up staying in the field instead of exit opportunities because it's relatively more relaxed, with respect to better hours, culture, and learning, than M&A and the traditional IB experience.

No problem! I forgot to add another point: the internship (& full-time) is pretty diverse because a lot of the work is mix between global markets and banking. So it's a good experience for sure.
