TOP EB vs Decent Credit Shop

What are your thoughts on choosing between good EBs and a decent credit fund

On one hand I do think a job in IB opens more doors especially Im sure I can get in their RX groups but if at the end of the day people still exit to buy side, would it be better if i just start there?

I say take the EB offer because then you’ll have exit opportunities to both credit AND equity in addition to solid M&A deal reps and training. You don’t want to take the credit opps only to realize you don’t like credit. It’s very hard to move down the capital structure on the buy side (hard to go from private credit to private equity).

PE is the only thing that will be difficult to move to and really depends on what type of credit you do. Moving to Vanilla PE from Distressed PE / Loan to own is not an uphill battle.

Moving from credit to equity is generally much easier than the other way round.

To OP, only consider the EB if you really want to do vanilla PE. If you want to go the public route, a buyside role will set you up better than banking (assuming its not DL / PC only).

for exits it is an actual diff.. its pretty obvious its not evr/pjt since rx is separate and if he wants to go buyside cvp and pwp are diff
