Treated like shit despite Return Offer
Hello Monkeys
I wrapped up my SA a few weeks ago and got a return offer. Despite this, almost no one in my team really congratulated me and it seemed like they did not give a shit about it at all.
Needless to say, this left quite a bitter mark. It seemed like they were forced to give me a return more than anything.
Anyone else had a similar experience?
They probably don’t give a shit. Don’t take it personally
Yeah it seems like this but I was wondering whether this is normal at all?
It's a little weird but also like take everything holistically. Did they treat you badly before or is this your entire reasoning behind "treating you like shit" in which case you're being pretty dramatic
My advice - re-recruit. If you think the culture isn’t great from how they’ve been treating you during your internship (especially after since they didn’t congratulated you for the return), they’ll probably won’t bother to help you learn when you’re in the analyst seat. Best to find another place and you’re in a position that you can be picky and find a place you think you can gel with the people
Worked at an EB which did the exact same thing. My advice is to re-recruit. My team didn’t care or want to teach me anything full-time. Therefore, I left the firm after a year
Truly, horrible experience would not recommend
A bunch of people in my group called me to congratulate me after getting the return offer. I felt so good.
When I got there full time, I realized 1) it was a toxic sweatshop from hell (although lowk already knew) and 2) there was an excel tracker with who called the interns and we would apply pressure to try to make them accept.
Don’t base decisions off whether or not they’re calling you, but think through your internship experience, think through any red flags you might’ve seen, think through whether this is where you want to spend the next 2 years of your life.
Can you get return offers if your analyst didnt like you
If they didnt, im struggling to see how they extended the RO in a toxic environment unless you were so good that they needed you right back
I suspect they had to or we were ranked globally against the whole intern cohort. I for sure think they didnt like me. But my group barely had any return offers
.
Lol, it's because they do not, in fact, give a shit. Don't take it personally but analysts wash out quickly and if your group has a history of that they just don't see you as someone who will stick around.
An RO feels like a golden ticket right now, but it's really not. It's a chance to prove to everyone you can do the work they expect you to do. You didn't win the Super Bowl, you're getting the chance to play the game.
Take it for what it is and prove yourself.
Congrats on UBS!
