Trying to figure out next steps, seeking advice
I'm currently a junior at a semi-target with a non-finance but "business related" major (think management, econ, entrepreneurship), 3.4-3.5 GPA, PWM and Big 4 Advisory internships under the belt. I was recruiting for BB IB next summer but struck out after a few first rounds. Had also been applying to PE, MM IB, boutiques etc. internships for next summer but no luck as of yet. Have done an adequate amount of networking at the BBs but less so in other firms.
To get to the point of this, I'm wondering if I should take an extra semester and grad in December in order to re-recruit for SA IB positions next year. It's either that or I wait until the bloodbath of FT recruiting (was told I should keep in contact for FT during one BB rejection).
If I choose to take the extra semester, the problem is that I don't have extremely strong justification for doing so, other than the fact that I'm one course behind in my degree (this could easily be made up next year though) or some bs covid excuse. Maybe I could take more finance courses to fill out an extra semester.
What do you guys think? Would it look bad if change my grad date and I reapply? Would it be pointless because my background isn't strong enough? If I have decent connects and keep in contact with the BBs would waiting for FT be better?
