Turning down offers

When applying for an internship at university or for a full-time position in your last year — what do you do with offers from other firms or banks who have accepted you. For instance, let’s say you applied for 5 BB banks as an analyst, and you got into all 5, but you can only go to 1. Do you respond to the other offers by declining them? Does this affect your employment chances if you want to work at one of the others eventually later in life? Do they see you turning down their offer as meaning you won’t work for them and will they hold it against you?

Generally if you have been in contact with recruiters and choose to accept an offer from another firm, it’s well-mannered to inform your recruiter via email that you won’t be accepting their offer. Some firms may hold it against you but I don’t think it’s a widespread issue if you want to join down the line.
