Two BB internships with 3.1 gpa VS one non-bb internship with 4.0 gpa

Candidate A: School: semi-target Two BB IBD internships GPA 3.1

Candidate B: School: target One banking intenrship (no name bank) GPA 4.0

Assuming both are applying for the same Summer Analyst position at a BB, who do you guys think has a better chance?

Candidate A would probably win, although it sounds pretty unrealistic to get two BB internships with a 3.1 GPA. You'd need some pretty intense networking/family connections to achieve that.

To infinity... and beyond!

"NuclearPenguins" Probably B because 2 internships with a 3.1 likely means that was through connections (esp. since one would be before jr. year).

A 3.1 is fucking terrible so unless there was a big medical issue or something like that, basically an automatic ding.

100% this. Candidate A most likely both has a family connection in a senior position at the bank and did such a shitty job that they aren't welcome back, despite the family connection.

That's still a B+ average, not great. Fact of the matter is, you can't really fake a 4.0, but you can fake how you got internships. And what went wrong that they wouldn't go back to one of those prior BBs?

Either way, to nitpick on oh, what if it was a 3.3 or a 3.4 is pointless because all this is irrelevant on paper - it's the superdays that ultimately matter anyways.

Candidate A !! Even with connections he was still able to pass the interview process and he already knows the job of an intern.

There are so many other variables that go into this that your scenario is impossible to answer.

Also anyone posting with a definitive "candidate A or B" answer has not a clue what they are talking about. what if Candidate A studies engineering? What if Candidate B interviews poorly? What if Candidate B's family friend is an executive at the bank? These threads shouldn't exist.
