By that logic, UBS IBD isn't "that" great either. GS ER is good and UBS IBD is good. OP needs to make a decision between IBD and ER.

Even if not looking to make a long-term career in finance, is UBS still the go-to? I like the idea of working in ER more than IB, but may be misled

 

GS is a solid name and you'll do fine if you went that route. I've seen people move from ER to IB. Think having GS on your resume will help you generally, not only in banking, but also in other fields. If you don't want to stay in ER, you can easily move to a decent strategy, IR, or corp dev role in industry. Most boutiques will consider a GS ER associate for IB associate roles.

UBS IB is probably the more solid choice here, as you'll gain much better experience if you want to focus on deals for a career.

Take it for what it's worth, people in ER tell me it's a horrible business but that's hearsay.
