I assume you are referring to the United States? Then this would make sense, my friend who was working in NYC applied for a lateral position in investment banking but was told that they would not sponsor him.

If you are an undergraduate or MBA student in the United States then you should check with UBS and see if different rules apply in that situation. Otherwise, you might be out of luck unfortunately. There are still many banks that sponsor but there has been more reluctance as of recent.
UBS sponsors at MBA level. Went through their process this fall and an international student in my class is headed there.
Great to hear. Did any banks at your program state outright that they will not sponsor? Have heard of Greenhill, Guggenheim, etc. not taking sponsors (at the Associate level). Assuming most BB's still do...
BMO flat out doesn’t sponsor.
Citi says that they sponsor, but the international students were cut pretty early.
Can confirm - Citi is one of the worst BBs when it comes to sponsorship.

They do on paper and a lot of international students made it deep in their process..at least at associate level.
They're cutting back on hiring internationals. At my MBA two internationals got a call from HR saying that they won't be able to sponsors an hour before on-campus superday, which is really fucked up.

so even if you will be interning for summer 2019 there will be 0 chance to get a return offer if you are an international?? Then what's the point of doing that internship?

are u going to intern at UBS this summer?
I was in the process for scheduling a superday with UBS last cycle, and HR called me and said that I would be ineligible because I required visa sponsorship. So not sure how intl students got UBS internships for 2019?
In the same position as you. Only after I attended the assessment centre (equivalent of a US superday) they told me they couldn't sponsor an internship. LOL
messed up...damn...
