UBS Promotion or Lateral to Boutique?

Ignore title - Current An2 at UBS. Not sure what to do. Was given associate promotion with the Tech group in NY, but have another offer on the table. Offer is for the metals & mining group at a small boutique (~15 people). It's specifically for the turquoise stone vertical. Thing is, I have to move out to their Naponne, Nebraska office. A single MD works in that office - I'd strictly be working under him. The office shares a flex wall with a Denny's so that would be a plus for quick food but other than that, not too sure. MD is about 63 years old and apparently an old war vet with dementia. Pay is $65K base and 10-15% bonus.

Do I take UBS promotion or leave for the boutique?

Congrats on UBS Tech! I am unsure their associates do anything, so seems like a great place to coast until you get fired. To become an associate at UBS, you have to be bottom bucket as all the top and mid buckets will just leave to either another bank or buyside, so if you are able to do the basic job requirements you will have top bucket guaranteed.

If you are a good enough international that joins as an analyst, you can also leave for another job in either corporates or another bank. It's really the bottom bucket and lower middle bucket internationals that stay. The MBAs are all terrible, so your competition is very low.
