I'll say this every time. Why do you care what others think? If UBS is more well-respected, then go to Bear and make it more prestigeous. If ur a pussy and want to go somewhere that is already on top, go to UBS. It's your call

haha i'd be a fool if i think i can make a firm more prestigious by working there as a summer or even full time analyst. why wouldn't people want to start at the best place possible?

Why you ask? Well perhaps it is because you want to to be at the place that might pay out the highest bonus when you are making real money 4-5 years down the road. UBS has moved up the ladder very quickly in the US and is a great place.

It's like attending a college ranked #8 in the nation, but when you graduate it is ranked #30. The market value of an education has gone down, and you would have been better off attending the school that was initially ranked #25, but #16 upon graduation. Yes, the fluctuation in rankings is unrealistic and they are often meaningless, but the example only serves to illustrate a point.

Please don't argue that Bear will not grow, or that UBS will grow. I am generalizing my response to his question.

-- Would you want to work for Solomon Brothers today? ..oh right.

As a side note, goldman and ms are arguably entrenched as the #1 and #2 public ibanks, and public opinion does not seem to think this will change anytime soon. Based on this knowledge, people choose to work there, but likely wouldn't if people thought they were slipping (search for comments about CS on this board).

I don't completely disagree, but MS has been slipping for the past few years. At one point, it was neck for neck with GS. Now, if you look at the actual league tables, I think Citi has bypassed it as the #2 bank. Yet, people are still picking MS over any bank with the exception of GS.

Hmm those offers look good but you could do better. Try out Wall Street Mastermind. They’ll get you into the bank of your choice for only $7000!!
