UChicago Econ Undergrad into IB
Hi WSO,
I just committed to UChicago and am planning to do an Econ major in college. My career interest now is to enter IB after graduation. I heard UC isn't much of a target school for banks in the Wall Street and it's therefore really difficult to get into a BB from UC. What are the things that I need to do the most in order to have a shot at 1st-tier I-Banks? From what I know it seems I have to keep a good college gpa and network as hard as I can.
Any advice will be helpful, thanks!!!
How can one be smart enough to get into UChicago but be so bad at basic research to not know its a heavily recruited school?
really difficult to get into a BB from UC
Try getting into a BB from a no name school no one respects over 1,000 miles away with no connections and barely any resources. Give me a fucking break lmao you'll be fine.
UChicago is one of the most famous Econ schools in the world lol
The University of Chicago will put you into serious consideration at every financial institution, including some analyst buy-side opportunities. You're literally going to be learning from nobel lauretes. Of course, all of this assumes that you can interact with individuals in a relatively normal manner.
Congratulations on your admission--you're going to be more than fine.
Chicago places well, increasingly so in the last few years. It sounds like you need to do more research on IB itself first though, so do that.
.
I can't believe some hs senior is already worrying about his job in ib four years from now.
UChicago has been placing incredibly well the past few years. Lots of people go to EB/BBs (personally know many kids going to Centerview/Lazard/Evercore/Qatalyst & JPM/MS/GS) and plenty of kids intern on buy-side at great shops too.
You will get interviews at most shops when the time arrives. Just enjoy college and make some friends.
Chicago is a major target and places the same as all the Ivey's. Tons of banking clubs on campus.
..
This guy knows what he’s talking about. I didn’t graduate from UC but I took hard econ courses at a theory heavy school purely out of ego and my gpa suffered for it.
Man. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this brief write-up. Entertaining with the perfect amount of wit.
I committed to UC because it's the best school within my school range in terms of recruitment and academics. I was worried that UC's representation in the Wall Street is weak compared to the ivies, but now it seems like I will end up fine if my grades don't suffer there.
Thanks so much for the replies!
this is such a cringe comment
That’s UChicago for you
just for context, Uchicago has the most incoming heads at MS (SAs + FT hires) this year. confirmed by head of uchicago recruiting at MS. just don’t ask dumb questions like this and you’ll have at least a foot in the door at most places
come on. it's uchicgao
Bruh UC undergrad has great placement at all the BBs except Barclays and Citi NY. Just network with the recruiting teams and have the bare minimum EQ and you'll do fine.
recent uchicago grad, everyone I know but one person in my year got a banking offer that wanted one. alums everywhere, you’re going to be fine
