UNC INTERNATIONAL STUDENT BSBA WITH AN EMPHASIS IN FINANCE

Hello, I am an international freshman at unc who got accepted into pre business. I will be graduating with a bsba with an emphasis in finance hopefully but I just wanted to ask if graduated with a bsba with an emphasis on finance will be worse for me than graduating with a degree in finance as I’m pretty sure my diploma will only say that I have a bsba. Anyways chapel hill was the best university I was accepted to for placement into jobs at high finance as the only university that I got accepted to that had more placements than unc was Bloomington and that’s probably because they have much more students. Any comments would be appreciated.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, graduating with a BSBA with an emphasis in finance from UNC should not put you at a disadvantage compared to a degree explicitly labeled as "Finance." Employers in high finance, especially in investment banking, care more about the skills, experiences, and networking you bring to the table rather than the exact wording on your diploma. UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School has a strong reputation, and its finance concentration is well-regarded, with over 50% of finance concentrators going into investment banking full-time.

Additionally, UNC's career services and alumni network are robust, particularly for those targeting NYC or Charlotte. While your diploma may only state "BSBA," your resume and interviews will highlight your finance emphasis, which is what truly matters to recruiters. Networking through UNC's Undergrad Finance Society (UFS) or participating in programs like the Reynolds Fund can further enhance your profile and opportunities.

In summary, your degree from UNC, combined with the right networking and extracurricular involvement, will position you well for high finance roles.
