I'm a first year and didn't take any days off during the holidays. I personally didn't have much work to do because most clients wanted to spend time with their families and not deal with bankers, so I was able to find a lot of time to spend with my family. I've already asked for a week off for next month and I know a few other first years in my analyst class have taken vacations (ranging from 2-5 days). I heard it's frowned upon to take vacation as a first year, but they're really pushing for it now since WFH is so mentally draining.

Common in my team to get a week around the holidays (spread out over the xmas/new years weeks and the week after new years) so everyone gets a chance to take it unless you need to take it during a different time for any reason. We also generally get time in the summer/early fall. Get grinded most of the year so it's always nice to get some time off

Heavily group dependent, with BBs usually having more respect for vacation than EBs. Some BBs will make you take a week of vacation. Holidays are usually pretty slow in IB with clients and seniors not wanting to do much. Pretty common for people to take vacation around that time. Ask senior analysts who you have a good relationship with what's typical in your group.

Took 1.5 weeks off around Christmas, 1 week over the Summer and another week somewhere in the beginning of November. Note: I am based in London

Yes, definitely! But due to Covid and travel restrictions, I ended up not taking more PTO. The remaining PTO were rolled over to the following year
