VP told me to make a sales pitch on my own.

So, I'm two weeks into an internship (unpaid) at an investment bank, where I initially helped out with some sales pitches. The VP spoke to me yesterday about creating a "mock" pitch for a fintech company and getting hands-on experience in crafting a pitch from scratch for this fintech company. VP said it's so I can get more knowledge about the industry and know how the process is. I am supposed to do it alone and check in from time to time.

I'm a bit surprised cause, is this a standard internship task, or have people had something similar? Anyone out there with tips on tackling this?

This is a very standard intern task and really is indicative of a smart intern manager. It's exactly what he said - learn how to do this type of work, what to look for when building a pitch etc, presenting skills, and also gives you something to work on during your downtime. It also is a nice line for your resume so you can say you built a pitch based on X, Y and Z factors, rather than "I just took notes on calls and got coffee".

If you search intern project on here it'll give you some ideas of how people approach it. But yeah this is totally normal and you should view it as a nice learning opportunity
