Which job to take Next?

Hi all

So I am an Asso at an EB and in process with 2 firms (tech investing). It’s fair to say that I am hating my job currently, it’s too iterative and I have no free time.

One is within a large PE (top 20 by AuM globally) - people seem sharp, but seems like they work a lot (realistically, WLB would improve a bit because I work like a dog currently, but wouldn’t be great either). Comp would probably be above Banking. Premier brand name. They also do midcap LBO which I am a bit less attracted to than say late-stage VC, but still interesting.

Another is at a small “boutique” investment firm, which does almost exactly what I want to do, but has no brand name (even though get on landmark deals because the founder is well connected), and would come at a ~40% paycut initially (based on my estimates - I could maybe try to leverage the other offer if received). Also very founder reliant, a bit of a fund risk / career risk generally although the firm has been going for a couple of years. However they told me (although could be BS) that there would be a significant WLB improvement - the partner told me 9-6 “except when working on a deal”. Also the people there feel less like finance sharks like the other fund, and more approachable/friendly.

Any thoughts ?
