What should I do from now (late March) till next September to get a summer job at bulge/boutique IB firm?

I go to a reputable business school in Canada where major US/European/Canadian firms come to recruit. Outside of interview prep. what else should I be doing?

I know a lot of you will mention networking but I'd like a bit more insight. Who should I be connecting with for coffee chats? With how many people per firm. When should I do it (e.g. right now or late summer).

I have a summer job already but I want to get ready for next year's summer recruiting and kill it. Outside of networking what else should I do.
