What to do when your interviewer has an accent?
So basically I had a boutique interview (first round) and my interviewer had a very thick Southeast Asian accent. Needless to say, it was difficult to understand and that was part of the reasons I didn't do that well. I also think I ticked off my interviewer when I expressed that I couldn't understand what was being said. What am I supposed to do in such a scenario? Thanks
Asian person here giving you advice. I'm assuming either China or India. I would ask again politely what the question is. Without a doubt, don't say I can't understand what you are saying. Personally, I would bring a notepad with you and write down all the questions you are being asked. I would then ask if the writing on the notepad is correct.
It was a video interview. The firm wasn't even an international based firm (like SocGen, etc.) so I had no idea that my interviewer was going to have a thick accent. The notepad is a good idea for next time.
