What would be an ideal candidate for a rising junior internship at a BB? Let's assume they don't have a personal "in".
I am determined to obtain a summer internship at a BB as a rising Junior as I attend a non target business school. My question is simple and please do not stray from directly answering the question: what kind of resume experiences would impress the readers? Specifically what experiences, or positions at such a young age> Specific skills? Thank you for your time.
For a nontarget, nothing will matter unless you network.
Honestly it doesn't matter what you have on your resume (EC/internship wise) all that matters is how you spin it.
What's an example of a perfectly spun experience?
That's for you to come up with.
It could literally be working as a life guard/waiter and as long as you're smart and can relate that to why IB thats all that matters. My friend last summer worked as a hostess, landed an offer from a BB.
With that being said, coming from a non-target you would generally want a more finance/business related internship but at the end of the day if you're a smart person you'll figure it out.
Thank you
I'd say 3.65+ GPA is basically a requirement so you can round up to a 3.7. CS didn't consider non-target applications below a 3.8 GPA this year.
Join a Finance related club ex: student run investment fund. Participate in case competitions at your school; generally speaking if you make it to the finals you have the opportunity to present your ideas to company executives which is amazing to talk about in an interview.
Finally, network your ass off starting today. The "in" you mentioned is something that you create on your own. I did it, and 3 of my friends are on the verge of doing it as well, all from non-targets. PM me if u have any questions
Hi - Can I still send you that PM?
sure
Non-target here w/ multiple offers. I'd say a GPA above 3.5, networking, and relevant experience are crucial. Most of the kids at my school who got offers had some kind of big name on their resume for sophomore summer, so try to get that or a boutique IB/PE internship during the year.
I also see many classmates with all of the above failing to get interviews, then see their resume and notice how sloppy it looks. Make sure you come across polished with a spotless resume and having read every single guide or study prep material available to you.
so I'm a sophomore and had a PE internship last fall, and this summer will be joining a BB but not in their IB division. However I have done zero networking whatsoever. Can you give me some networking tips? I get really awkward during phone calls, and haven't successfully crafted my story yet
pm me, i was in a similar position as you last year
So you're doing a sophomore summer at a BB? You'll be fine. You'll have the chance to do internal mobility if you do a good job too, and a lot of people will reply to your emails when you say "hey I'm a sophomore interning at bb interested in recruiting for IB this summer". Also echo what bankerboy252 said, do as many mock interviews as you can.
As far as not being awkward, do something to pump yourself up before calls. I do this. Pushups, slap yourself, dance, anything to get you upbeat and confident. No excuse for not having your story crafted, this takes 30 mins, then just repeat during mock interviews every week. Bankers love to talk. Just ask general questions then ask follow ups based on whatever they say. YouTube how to be good at conversations, read books, and talk to people.
