When did you start applying to interships?

Hello fellow monkeys,

I'm a madrisian student at a semitarget, on my 2nd year of Econ + Business Intelligence (big data applied to finance), looking to break into IB in order to finally materialize my dreams.

I've been a finance and econ nerd ever since high school; and participated in different courses and events where I've learned a lot.

Problem is, now that I want to actually have a summer intership, that I don't know which sources to trust when it comes to advice. I don't know If I should apply now, and not care much about extra qualifications; if I should send my resume to every bank in town; or even which position should I even apply for.

I wanted to ask you, dear reader, for your advice and experience on the matter. I don't mind working lots of hours, bringing coffee and printing memos all day, as long as I eventually get to break into this wonderful industry: so any contribution, being in the shape of a book title or webpage, is more than welcome.

Thanks!
