Where do mid-level / senior employees live?

As investment bankers and private equity professionals continue to move up the ladder, are they confined to living in NYC because of their demanding work schedule? Do VP+ tend to move into the suburbs like NJ ever? Once someone begins to think about starting a family, a nice big lawn and house might seem more appealing than an apartment in the concrete jungle.

I think it depends on personal preferences. PM at a shop I worked at couple of years ago used to live in NJ because he wanted a large house. Senior guys / PM at place I recently worked at lived in large apartments in some of the best parts of the city. Personally I would still live in the city if I get to that stage because I've just lived here for most part and didn't like the time I lived in the suburbs so I guess it really depends on preferences
