This is bank specific, but for me, you buy your own model (whichever one you want), and are reimbursed for the plan and the berry.
Blackberry Bold, we got to pick whatever we wanted but they had to active and program it with their software...
how do the banks get their spyware on your bb's if you buy your own? do you buy it and then hand it over to IT?
yes they have to activate it (read: add a bunch of restrictions) via their enterprise server.

iphone is much better at opening PDF's, Excel, Web etc.
I don't want an iphone and our enterprise server will not support them anyway

I like the new curve, its a bit smaller then the other BBs...i couldnt get the hang of the iphone

yes, because i don't want whoever's monitoring my phone activity to be able to read my personal texts...have the bold 9700

any need for a second personal phone if i only make calls on my personal? i don't text or email and they don't record calls so seems like privacy isn't a big deal.
May depend on the firm, but most likely not. Actually, S&T interns might not get blackberrys at all. If you do, you'll probably be assigned a work blackberry that you carry just for the summer.
