Which gym to go to

analyst 1 in group with no FaceTime culture (go into office once a week) and debating between equinox and goodlife

- equinox = $210 a month with corporate discount ($245 and setup fee without) and 1 min walk from work + 13 mins from home (also can pay extra for laundry service) but closes at 9 pm

- goodlife = $50 a month with corporate discount and 4 mins from home, ~5 mins from office but closes at 11 pm

- condo gym = free but dumbbells only go up to 50 and no squat rack or barbell bench press

the cost per month isn’t the biggest issue, but I like that equinox has both laundry service and nicer showers (if going straight from work can shower + go back to work)… except because of my group’s unique circumstance - I’ll only have to be in the office once a week and the equinox hours are shit

what would you guys do in my shoes

For what it's worth, I know a dude who goes to Planet Fitness religiously. Seems to work out well for him. He'll be the first to admit it's jank but always brags about the value he gets out of it compared to the Equinoxers

I used to go to planet fitness right after I graduated college. People who make fun of it don’t even lift. Yes, you can’t deadlift or bench and squat in a power rack, but the dumbbells go up to 100lb (at least mine did) and they have high quality cable and other machines. You can still get absolutely jacked there. Not to mention the cardio equipment was top quality and that the gym itself was extremely clean. Never had an issue w the alarm thing and never heard it go off. Lots of jacked dudes would use the one I went to for cardio as it wasn’t crowded and only $10 a month

No membership, use the free gym. When things get busy, regardless of being in the office or at home, you won't have much time to work out. Having the gym in the building saves time and still allows you to get a workout it. The limited weights can be annoying, but mix it up by doing different types of exercises, hold reps or longer sets. Since I assume this is for the general purpose to getting some exercise in and not professional bodybuilding, you should be fine. When you can lateral raise 50lbs, then maybe you deserve a step up to a better gym.

This is retarded. OP, you like Equinox. You’re going to make $120k minimum. Probably at least 1.5x that. Get the Equinox membership

To me, equinox is a colossal waste of money. If you’re like me and just enjoy lifting and arent going to do any classes, just join blink or crunch. Way cheaper, has all the same equipment if not more, and isn’t noticeably more crowded. Equinox is a joke meant for wealthy middle aged people, and young finance bros who want to feel rich.

Not listed above, but have been going to F45 recently and really like it.

They have 45 minute classes everyday. Takes the guess work out of “what am I doing at the gym today”. You just show up and they have a full body workout set up for you.

Quick and efficient. I go 2x during the week in the mornings and then Saturday / Sunday.

$180 a month so a fair price point as well

These are good workouts but I felt like they were more cardio based. One push day was so dumb to me - we were doing a push-up variation every other station. I’m in great shape but after 100 push-ups over a span of 5 minutes my arms are toast. I was just sitting there with the other gym goers like “what idiot made today’s program”

I would say it depends largely on your fitness goals and the hours you work. If you expect to be working ~60 hours a week and lifting regularly, go Equinox if you appreciate the premium amenities they offer. If you want access to a full gym and want to increase size or have PR goals, but would prefer to spend less, go Goodlife. Only reason to go Goodlife over Equinox is if your hours arent bad and its no issue to return home to shower. If you anticipate working an average of 70+ hours per week, condo gym should suffice, unless again, you have specific PR / size / cut goals.

Personally, I am very big into lifting so I always pay for a quality gym in close proximity. With that said, I lift for multiple hours at a time and have PR goals, which I would say is unlike most folks. If I were in your shoes, I would likely go goodlife and just shower at home, but my hours dont usually surpass 70 a week
