Which one to choose?
Let me keep it simple. I have two options in hand now
1. Join a CB team at a BB which has great dealflow, but again since it is CB it is on the financing/ credit side
2. Join a TMT team at a boutique, again with an amazing dealflow (think Greenhill, FTP, Arma etc..)
My goal is to work in PE, a few years down the line. Most probably I would have to lateral to another BB/EB before having a shot at PE I believe.
So which one should I choose now?
I'd go EB. Better to have relevant deal experience than brand name imo. It'll certainly help if you have a lateral into BB in between, but it's not unheard of to be placed out of the Greenhills of the world
Lol “unheard of” Greenhill places to PE just fine would be dumb to go to a BB from Greenhill unless gunning for MF and even that would be a crapshoot for most BB groups
Just to be clear, you'd recommend joining with the likes of Greenhill rather than at a BB corp banking to move to PE. Right?
No question about that 10/10 times choose the IB role
Would go with TMT boutique. If PE placement proves difficult from there, you can try a lateral move to BB/EB and then exit.
Not sure about Arma but both Greenhill and FTP are way better than BB CB.
I’m surprised you got a FTP or Greenhill offer and asking this question. This like should I go to Stanford on a full ride or Texas Tech. Nothing against Texas Tech
