Why are documents so stupidly large?

Some dude just posted today the Investment Banking Analyst Handbook from CS and it was like 228 pages long and I'm thinking to myself this has to be one of the most useless documents ever. And I guess this is the thing in finance why are documents so stupidly long that no one reads. Professionalism maybe, I feel as u go down market and company brand becomes less of a factor, the deal makers who have real connections in the LMM/further down don't give a single shit about making stupidly large marketing files (before they had analysts my old bosses would make a 15 page CIM that looked like a 5th grader made it but it was one of our firms most successful client stories to date). So why are documents purposefully so long when like 90% of the real value could probably be fit in 1 page, and if it is truly useless, is the modest professionalism perception even cost efficient to the analyst hours put in?
