Why are Recruiters Cowards?

I dislike criticizing people for their profession, but why are recruiters so hesitant to engage with candidates? I understand that they don't have the time to speak to everyone, especially in an industry like investment banking where hundreds or even thousands of people apply for the same job. However, as a social experiment, I've reached out to recruiters for job posts with typically fewer than five applicants. Even in those instances, they seem unwilling to have a conversation about how I can improve my candidacy to be selected in the recruitment process.

Their job is to find the best candidate, not to be your career coach. If you are qualified for these jobs they will talk to you when they're ready to help coordinate an interview process, it sounds like you are not qualified and want career advice... you should not be asking them this. Apply to jobs, network with folks working in those jobs but internal recruiters prioritize making hires, not doing resume reviews for you
