Why does Morgan Stanley have TV commercials?
^ that's one. The only service the general public would be interested in is E-Trade, and they have their own commercials. I don't understand why they have commercials. I've seen some from GS, but they were all regarding Marcus. What benefit does MS gain from this?
You’re forgetting their entire wealth management business. While not necessarily targeting the “general” public, certainly targeting the viewers of programs I’ve seen the commercials on.
Some dumbass circle-jerk PR idea
Because it is still in the banks' interest to keep their public image from spiraling too low. Don't underestimate the influence public opinion has on regulatory policy, especially on a heavily regulated industry like finance. The GFC was not too long ago and the political climate has shifted dramatically since even Occupy Wall Street to be more and more anti-Wall Street. When was the last time a major national Republican politician called out the "big banks" in the pre-Trump era?
