Why does my MD care about where I work?
Not sure why my MD cares about where I work. Super bizarre he wants me to be back in the country when there's nothing to do.

That's a tax issue, I'm pretty sure.
tax issue only kicks in after 183 days, i'm no where near that.
That's really more an annoying problem for HR, not your MD.
I am pretty sure you need to be either a resident of the other country or on a work visa to work from overseas even if your employer is based elsewhere. There may also be additional tax burden for the bank and compliance issues (VPN, offshore access to restricted data).
Did you really move overseas without telling your MD or anyone in HR? You may be fucked actually, not just in for a scolding
Bc your md sux m8
totally agree.
Despite the last year of proving WFH works, think there’s still a misconception / stigma against being places that are away. Like you aren’t prioritizing work or something.
Agreed to an extent. I'm sure the MD giving him shit on this is sending him nasty emails from his mansion in South Hampton.
11/10 this is happening.
To your point, I'm sure the MD is not doing shit in South Hampton....so he assumes that you're not doing shit in your vacation destination either.
Either tax issue or time zone issue (whether that's real or a perceived issue).
No clue why time zone is an issue when i get called 24/7 / am available 24 / 7.
Yeah, that's why I said it could just be a perceived issue on the MD's part.
Tax issue is a bullshit reason. You're still paying taxes based on your home state and location of the company. I've worked from home in Europe for 4-5 months, and this hasn't changed how I'm taxed at all (home residence and company is based in NYC). It's a very easy excuse for firms to use to try and keep you in your home base.
Boss told me to come back in July (2020) because I would be going back to the office. So came back to NY, got into a 1y lease, and have been WFH ever since. Getting screwed with rent while all my buddies save/invest that money.
what a joke man. Sorry to hear about that.
Sounds like JPM
11/10 if I quit, I'll tell my team that being forced to go back. Such a joke.
why the fuck do you want me to be in my tiny ass flat with nothing to do? MD has a massive house in the countryside LOL.
Is suffering together with the rest of the junior employees supposed to build teamwork / comradery?
IS THIS A SICK JOKE
Test
Cuz there shouldn't be any fuhn in fuhn-ance
Junior ppl in fancier locations inform me of “plans for the weekend / afternoon” more than the ones staying put. Maybe that’s why
what does this mean
You are the problem
Looks like you’re going to have to pop open the .ppt, buddy.
It’s just general observation. If you are stuck in Manhattan or parent’s basement, less likely you are on a boat party in Miami. You may deserve it, but you also can’t ride a boat if no one pays you $200K for being available.
Didn’t enjoy when client asked for a call Saturday morning today when I wanted to ski but hey that’s life.
If enough people have left and morale is already low, I would push back. As you mentioned, total BS
MBAs are doing research to claim in office work is a vital part of the work culture. I bet there will be a push for creepy monitoring of keystrokes in the future.
He's probably just jelly you're doing well gaming the system.
The worst part of how MDs and the firms as a whole communicated this is that they kept making us think we would be going back soon. I signed a new lease in NYC, unnecessarily. Would have done a 1 year lease in Miami if I knew It would be almost 2 years of working remotely.
I haven’t seen many analysts who WFH as efficiently as in the office
I know that you little bastards watch Netflix while working and give an impression that you are swamped when in reality you play PS4 or take naps throughout the day
