Why doesn't anyone talk about deals on this forum? It is supposed to be about IB after all

It would be way more interesting (and educational) to see people's views on deals: who the player's are, MD's / teams that are running the transaction, rumours & gossip etc than read about the questions regarding product vs coverage groups, BB vs EB and of course league table debates..... they're boring and well overdone.

Confidentiality only pertains to what you're actually working on. So say 60 certified users, how many are actually working on A given deal? Maybe none even.

The real issue is that we're doing this shit all day. I atleast am not interested in talking about more deals especially ones I have nothing to do with. If something is going on in the markets, Ill read about it and thats about it. I have no inclination to seek out other people interested in deals and discuss the issues.

My contribution to this forum is more career focused, than IB specifics. If you're working on deals 18 hours a day, when you take a 20 minute break in the middle of the day to look at something other than spreadsheets and filings and financial statements... do you want it to be another deal?

...because people don't come here to talk about their work.

my interpretation is that OP meant deals in the paper e.g. Geely-Volvo

I think it's fair to say that wso threads are more about how to get diff jobs and finding out what diff jobs are like. wso is more careers based. in fact, i suspect that most users are college students

i'm sure there are forums out there where you can talk about deals going on. but here, noone wants to

Also, why dont YOU talk about deals? Get it going.

If there were any regular discussion of actual live deals I would quit this forum immediately. No big loss there, but just trying to say that I wouldn't want to be associated with even the slightest hint of impropriety. And to say that you're allowed to talk about something just because you're not on the actual deal team is completely false. ANYONE with access to inside information is prohibited from distributing that information. Hey, Mom! The guy in the cube next to me is working on a big deal for XXX Company!!! It'll be brilliant. Buy buy buy!

jhoratioAnd to say that you're allowed to talk about something just because you're not on the actual deal team is completely false.

I didn't mean "deal team" I meant firm. I was talking more to the fact that people work in all different firms and there are enough members on this forum and deals going on in the marketplace that even if a thread is discussing the Citadel / DynCorp deal, though 3 (if that) certified members may be sidelined from the discussion, that is NOT the reason deals are not talked about on this forum. Its more (atleast in my case) because of the reasons I stated in my original response.

Why do you even are? It's not like your future job in the middle office of piper jaffray requires this knowledge.
