Why is stern so bad at placement
Friends at non-targets are getting offers left and right, but not seeing whole lotta people place here that aren't in FS/nepo(a lot of nepo)/div. Feeling like a non-target rn. Can any other stern sophs corroborate?

less self pity, more locking in !!
It's not, just more competitive than other targets. Simply higher % of Stern interested in IB than say ivy league kids, therefore you see less placement internally. However, when you look at overall numbers for the year, Stern will probably be pretty similar as years past.
See same thing with other business based large schools like Georgetown or UVA, simply more competitive than peer target schools or even some semi-target schools in terms of number of IB spots vs. number of people interested. It's the anti-LAC problem, where LAC's are too small and have to little interest in IB comparatively to be truly targets and place across the board.
I felt like my NESCAC had better placements than Stern tbh
Hard to beat W/A per capita
Even whole number wise, Stern placed very poorly this cycle
jsut based on club numbers or?
Georgetown is NOT a large school and lots of people are more interested in government and law; better examples would be Michigan, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UNC, USC, and Cornell
just not cut, should’ve locked in
sterns second to wharton for placement numbers
Almost every applicant who went to stern gets automatically dismissed at my desk. We received 1000 applicants for ~4 internship spots, and it felt like 200 of the applications came from stern on the day the application opened, all with generic cover letters and indistinguishable resumes. My desk is in Boston, and these throwaway applications feel like probable renegs as well. We just don’t take the stern applicants seriously and they are “high effort” in all the wrong ways. I also receive a million networking nemails from sternys and at this point I am forced to ignore.
.
Just put the fries in the bag bro
He’s not gonna coffee chat you lil bro
Agree - Stern tends to attract and intensify hardos, for lack of a better word. It's a much more competitive environment than other targets, they all network like crazy and many of them are probably super qualified, but it's hard to pick the strong ones out of the literal tidal wave of identical Stern candidates.
If I were at Stern I would try to personalize myself a bit more - don't send the most generic email you ever had. Don't use the Stern resume format - obviously don't go off the rails with something crazy, but find a different template online. Take one of your 7 internships off the resume to talk about the club you really enjoy.
Network with people from your high school or high school area, people who played the same club sport asd you... literally any other connection, realistically it's late March and even the most engaged and helpful Stern alums are tapped out on networking calls this late in the season

Are they? Maybe a 1 off.
I’ve hired a few sternies when I was in banking and they were all great. Nice people, too.
There is such a high volume of ppl recruiting from Stern that some kids are gonna have to strike out.
From previous cycles, friends have told me that maybe 60% of ppl seriously gunning for IB are able to place (across all firm types), while the others strike out and have to pivot to consulting or even audit.
Stern is the 2nd highest recruited into IB every year, consistently. Just spray, pray, and don’t mess up any opportunities. You’ll be fine like the rest of us.
I think it’s this. It’s fairly easy to tell who the psychos are in the interview process
