Working Abroad 6M or 1 Year Worth it?

Hi,

Current A1 at a good bank. Didn't recruit for PE as I didn't feel ready but am considering it or other exit ops. Will definitely do at least 6 months or 12 months as an AS0 (2 year analyst program and third year as an associate). Am thinking about asking HR to letting me do this AS0 associate year abroad for 6 months or 1 year before either coming back to my team (if I decide to not do PE) or before going to PE having recruited as an A2.

Has anyone done this? What about in a country where you don't speak their native language? any suggestions? Unsure if this is worth doing as 1 year away from friends is a lot but maybe 6 months can be worth it?

I have done FLDP in a BB and rotated through three countries (US, UK, DE)
I have done multi-country leadership exchange at a fund (EU, CH, UK, CA and US)

have also worked and lived in more countries

I would absolutely recommend that you do this, especially if your employer supports it. business will normally be in English
Otherwise they'll provide language courses also

I did it for a year pretty shortly after college. it was a fantastic experience. will probably change your life. I wouldnt worry about the friends, just give them a call when you can, they will probably be eager to hear about your adventures abroad. and if you lose touch, probably wasnt a lifetime friendship anyway.

probably cant do a country you don't speak the language unless 100% of business is conducted in english, but honestly even living in London is really cool and actually differentiating for your career too.
