Would Switching Majors Help Me?

After looking over the LinkedIn profiles of a few analysts and associates at BBs and PE firms who graduated from non-targets I noticed that a lot of the time they majored in something quantitative and spoke a different language and a lot of them also attended a target for an MBA program, which is why I am now considering switching my major.

I am currently a rising junior studying finance and accounting at a non-target with a 3.8 GPA. Recently, I've been considering switching my majors to a double degree in mechanical or petroleum engineering and international business with a minor in Mandarin Chinese. Would this be a better combination and help me stand out a bit more if I am aiming for IB?

You're going to be a junior next year and chances are, there probably isn't much overlap between the engineering and business curriculum at your school. With that in mind, it's important to consider whether or not it's worth it to delay graduation (if you have to).

Just take some quantitative courses or some CS classes and include them in your resume under relevant coursework... a Finance major from a non-target is fine if you're shooting for IBD... maybe if you were trying to go for trading then a more quantitative major would help.
