Wrong GPA on resume got offer
Hi all, I am desperately in need for some guidance right now. I’ve received an SA offer with a EB firm and am worried because my gpa is actually 3.7 instead of 3.8 which is stated on my resume.
I put my term gpa (3.8) under gpa because I had a shit freshmen year and gave my resume to some friends to edit. I didn’t even remember to change because they added the ‘cumulative’ word and now I’m worried I will be seen as a liar if they ask for transcript. How should I go about this?

Your best bet is to directly email/call HR. You don't want them to find this out themselves. You still have a good chance of retaining the offer, as long as you give them a valid reason (certainly not my friend edited my cv..)
Thanks so much for the input. Is there any valid reason you think might be good to tell them? My gpa has been improving semester by semester but it was never 3.8 to begin with. Can I tell them 3.8 is the expected gpa I expect to get after this semester?
Sorry, I'm not familiar with the US GPA system. But as long as it isn't some BS it should be fine.
One reason I could think of is that the GPA did not reflect the most recent academic term/unedited for final exam marks/courses. Or the resume encompasses the term GPA, which one could argue is more reflective of your current work ethic/progression.
This is definitely a tricky one, but at the end of the day, pick a reason and stick to it.

Thanks for all the help!!! I’m scared they might ask about adjusted gpa cuz my school doesn’t have that for Covid, do you think if I tell them it’s my expected cumulative gpa works? On their official application they asked me to put expected gpa. Tyty!
A 3.8 and a 3.7? That’s a round up. Don’t say anything. If they mention or bring it up, just give one of the reasons mentioned above.

Honestly just prepare a script of email or talking points if they find out, and that is if they actually question you.
Just say you calculated the GPA wrong by 0.1 and that it was your mistake or something. Or say you pass/failed some of the classes so it doesn't count.
I really don't think they would care. The thing they would most likely focus on is your criminal background record. Apart from that no big issues unless it is crazy stuff.
Why do people lie about their gpa then go on here and make posts like these. It's like when dudes lie about how tall they are +-1 an inch, the height itself almost never moves the needle but the dishonestly certainly can.
Just be upfront and tell HR you made a typo, nobody is stupid enough to buy the story you have now. You spend hours checking and re-checking your resume and you're telling me you missed your gpa, which is at the very top of your resume?
HR will literally never even notice the backround checks in terms of school course load is never that stringent. Don’t say anything at all and if they bring it up you can just claim at the time of applications your gpa was that number
Just say it was round up (unless your 3.7 is actually a 3.65 in which case be honest with them or just tell them it was 3.8 when you applied)
Its not like you mentioned a 3.8 while having a 3.1. 0.1 Is not much of a difference if its the only shady thing on your resume
Just tell the HR that 3.8 is what you were expecting but due to COVID, you weren't able to hit your target and fell short by mere 0.1 further show them that there is an increasing trend in your GPA. This should work in 99% of the cases. Good luck!
This isn't even worth bringing up or thinking about for more than 5 minutes. Just update the resume on your end, and if they ask for an updated resume, send it to them...
