Year Abroad Impact On Recruiting

Does anyone have any stories of success from a year abroad? How does a year abroad at a target university affect your recruiting?

In my case I'm currently a UK student who will be studying at a strong semi target however I have the option to go study at EU targets such as Bocconi, Mannheim etc, is there any point of doing this from a breaking into IB stand point?

I can imagine it would help if you decided to try recruiting in that country, but would it help in the UK or US at all? Just curious if anyone has any experience with that sort of thing.

Had this dilemma and chose an easier and less reputable school. It worked out super well for me. I could travel and enjoy the city. The time I did spend working was for applications, which took only one month of my time.

My advice is to choose an easy-going, fun school. Your year abroad isn’t meant to be spent in the library studying for courses, which will be the case, given European schools (like Bocconi/ Mannheim) require work.

Instead, choose somewhere fun with good travel connections and student culture. If you do need to work, let it be on applications and every other minute should be spent enjoying your life. Before I started, 90% of bankers I spoke to advised me the same and I don’t regret it
