Yet another background check anxiety meltdown

Hey everyone so I am in the process of the background check for my FT offer and I, like many others, am obviously nervous. I didn't have an issue with one for my SA at a different bank, but this is literally my dream job so cut me some slack.

We received the background check form about five weeks ago. I filled it out and heard nothing for two weeks, then the company wrote me telling me they couldn't reach a couple of my employers so I sent over W-2s. Didn't hear anything again so I followed up to make sure the correct person received the docs as when I replied to several people who were CCed and I received a couple out-of-office messages.

I heard nothing from anyone there so I followed up with my HR contact at the beginning of last week and they said the background check was already complete and it was now "under review for approval" and I haven't heard since. We were told we would receive additional onboarding paperwork once our check was complete and I have not received anything. Is this sort of timing normal? I didn't want to be another one of those posters, but now I empathize with them because this is really making me (an already anxious person) even more anxious.

I am already making fun of myself for posting this so please refrain as I've got that covered.

I don’t know anyone who failed a background or reference check ever in my life. These are typically done for formality to see if you have a criminal record.

I get the anxiety, and I was in a similar place to you just a few years ago, but it's not a big deal. A firm I worked at for a year and a half in college changed its legal name and underwent a major structural change; not sure on the specifics, but the company W2 never comes up when they look up my SSN / other details. Long story short, on every background check I've ever done since starting FT, it reads "couldn't confirm employment," and I've never had anyone even ask for paperwork to confirm it.

I would keep emailing HR at the start of every week, with the tone of each subsequent email getting more and more aggressive until you get a clear answer.

As an incoming analyst, you should be afforded way more respect than this.

If HR won’t cower to you, start email your new group head and ask him to personally intervene and help move along your background check approval. Make sure to use a caustic tone to signal your annoyance. Use of profanity not required, but is encouraged.
