Nah just joking
Background checks for summer is usually light, and if it’s portrayed as a startup on the resume you will be fine
I had two startups on my resume and had no issues

I'd say it's fine. Don't mention the internship you dropped from in the online form so that they won't be trying to verify your employment. Even when you mention your startup endevours in their form (and you need to as it's on your CV), it's likely they won't be able to verify that as well but tbh it doesn't matter, you will get through the screening process anyway. From my personal experience,, they don't verify things very carefully, like I gave them an email to my first employer - a tiny company I worked for after graduating from high school - and they didn't reach out to them. So don't worry too much but in the future be selective on what you put on your CV

How do they go about verifying unpaid stuff if there's no official record of employment? In a similar situation
