3.0 GPA with no experience.

I recently graduated from the University of Mississippi, top 10 school in nation for accounting. I graduated with my undergraduate in accounting and I am now actively applying for jobs. I have no experience in the working world and have a 3.0 GPA. I have applied for around 5 jobs as a financial analyst and have heard nothing back from any of these companies. Any suggestions on how I can leverage my knowledge of accounting from others who do not have an accounting degree with work experience?

Hello, it would be very hard to leverage your knowledge of accounting without work experience over someone without an accounting degree but with experience. I was in a similar situation as you a few years ago.

Some options I would consider if I were you to get into the job market would be: - Apply for a Master program; do an internship next summer and then apply for a full time job; - Use recruiting companies/job agencies like Hays, Robert Half; - Internship (network your way to a paid internship or as a last resort, an unpaid internship to get a foot in the door).

All the best to you!

Start networking. Make it clear in speaking with people that you’re open to internship opportunities. And you’re likely going to have to apply to a hell of a lot more than five openings if you hope to secure something without networking; this isn’t at all something specific to you, but rather it’s a numbers game for everyone.

Good luck, and don’t give up. Looking for that first job out of college can be difficult. Don’t let yourself get discouraged.
