A Different Case, Surprisingly
Hey guys,
So I'm new to posting on the forum, however, I've been reading through the threads. I want your advice to my situation. I live in Rhode Island where there is no financial industry at all, and attended a state school where I did very well. I'm currently a financial rep with Northwestern Mutual (which is the only game in town), where I feel as though I'm trying to make a career off of selling insurance to my family, friends, etc. and not really accomplishing anything. I would like to get into the hedge fund game, but this is completely foreign territory as to how to go about finding a firm etc.
I was just looking for any advice for a small town kid trying to get into the game. Any advice as to where to look, specific firms, experience tips are appreciated. Unlike the gentleman who stated $80k/year isn't enough, I was targeting a minimum of $45k as a start. My real fear lies within the trading firms such as SMB Capital, which do not pay any compensation outside commissions.
Thanks in advance!
Small town guy? You mean small state guy?
The same small state guy who is what? 30-50 minutes from Boston where there is a plethora of opportunity. If you have never heard of Boston then PM me and I will help you understand the possibilities there if you have then start cold calling, emailing, etc.
Cold call alumni and random people from boutique banks/S&T/HF, whatever. Ask them about their experiences, and advice for you.
Make sure your resume is perfect and cover letter powerful but concise, and send it out to a thousand places. Good luck, man.
How would I go about discovering boutiques? I've been trying to google for some, but I have had no success. Just wondering how other go about finding these places.
