Accounting Internship -> Banking?
How useful would an accounting internship at a F500 company be for IB recruiting?
I'm guessing it would look good on a resume but do any of the skills you learn during the internship carry over?
As a Sophomore, there do not seem to be many options for paid summer internships so I am wondering if I should be looking elsewhere.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Have you considered going into audit? That background would catch the eye of most recruiters looking for new auditors.
Hey thanks for responding!
I have considered audit but I'm not sure if it would be a wise decision if my goal is IB to start with.
You mentioned that some recruiters look for auditors. If this is for IB, why is this the case? Do the skills overlap?
Big 4 would probably be your best option as far as accounting goes. I went to a very non-target school so I knew my options were limited. I ended up getting an internship at a big 4 firm (audit) and hired on FT (audit). After a year I leveraged my experience and ended up lateraling into IB.
Thanks for the reply!
How much difficulty did you have trying to switch from big 4 to IB?
Do you think it would be wise to go down the big 4 path if I know I want to go into banking eventually?
My school is a target for big 4 recruiting but I am debating whether I should be going for regional banks/other areas of finance instead of accounting before going into IB.
