Advice for English-speaking male in Europe
Hello everybody, my name is Jamal
Just a bit of background on myself. I got good grades from a semi-target in the UK (Durham, Nottingham, Edinburgh, Bristol), but didn't get any internships until my final year. I recently completed two summer internships in the M&A department of one of the big 4 and a regional boutique, followed by an off-cycle at a MM (Blair, Raymond James, H&W, Baird, Lincoln).
I have now been fortunate enough to secure a second off-cycle at an EB (Evercore, PJT, Moelis, Lazard), and hope to convert to a FT role afterwards. However, my resume is still rejected at the first round by ~ 90% of recruiters (have submitted ~ 200 job applications over the last two years, with no issues with CV apart from language).
I studied abroad with many individuals from Europe, who comparatively walked into IB / PE (recruited directly into BB / EB / PE firms after completing 20 off-cycles in Europe), and whose parents had the money to fund them through expensive masters programs.
I am looking to exit into a top PE fund in 2-3 years, but I am aware that my lack of a prestigious school (and Masters degree), as well as a second language, will likely hinder this in Europe. Apart from being a top-rated analyst, can anybody on this forum offer me any advice? Is it best to just ignore the European bias and try my best, or look to exit to the US via an MBA after my analyst / early associate years?
Best,
JC
