Am I cooked?

Looking for some advice on internship reputation risk.

I'm currently interning at a large financial institution in wealth role. There are a few interns on the team, and some of them spend a significant amount of time chatting throughout the day and can be fairly loud. I sit near them and occasionally join conversations, but for the most part I try to stay focused on work, stay busy, and make a good impression.

Recently, I heard that some full-time employees have commented that "the interns" talk too much and may be taking the opportunity for granted. My concern is that even though I don't behave the same way as the more talkative interns, I may be getting grouped together simply because I'm part of the intern cohort and sit with them.

My long-term goal is to move into IB, and I'm worried that a negative perception of the intern class could somehow impact future opportunities. If people reach out for informal references or ask around about me, could being associated with a weaker intern group ruin my chances?

For those who have worked in banking or recruiting, how much do individual reputations matter versus the reputation of the intern class as a whole? If you've found yourself in a similar situation, what did you do to differentiate yourself?
Am I overthinking this, or is there a real risk here?

The 1st. The offense made is that you talked too much, it's not like you were breaking/doing anything rancid.

The thought process if you're overthinking in general should be "How badly does this reflect on me and does it actually matter." In this case you are not the one talking but generalization as a whole has a lesser effect on you and does a stamp of that you talk a lot as a FRESHMAN INTERN stick? Probably not.

If it were something along the lines of talking about how your boss has cannons then yes it would affect you in perpetuity.

My only worry is I heard that for Canadian banks, MD’s/Executives communicate a lot, even at diff banks. Just don’t want to go for a chat or interview, where an MD either @ my firm or another asks someone in my division ab me and I don’t get a good response.

idk how it is in canada since us, but from understanding of us landscape it dont matter unless u leave on REALLY bad terms or if you dont get a RO from your internship and they ask why.
